Wedding Photograph Taken by Gay's Studio at Fall River, Massachusetts; Possibly of Elias Makinen and Elina Wehkamaki, later of South Thomaston, Maine

Wedding photograph taken by Gay's Studio at Fall River, Massachusetts.

The reverse is full of handwriting, but hard to make out. The groom's name appears to be Elias Mak? Most of the writing appears to be a description of the couple's attire, perhaps to help the studio in a colorization process.

Interestingly, Elias Makinen (1871-1931) and Elina E. Wehkamaki (1877-1960), both natives of Finland, married at Fall River, Massachusetts, on 11 November 1898. Their parents were listed as Elias Makinen and Maria Hernaho; and Erik Wehkamaki and Lovissa Sorvari.

Elias and Elina found their way to South Thomaston, Maine, presumably because of the opportunities in that area for Elias, a quarryman, as noted on his marriage record.

If you recognize this couple as Elias and Elina Makinen or another couple from your family photographs, or if you can transcribe the writing on the reverse, please leave a comment or contact me directly.
