The reverse shows the eerie shadow of another young man, whose image was apparently long stored with this photograph.

Walter Scott Foster (1881-1953) was born 26 March 1881 in Clinton, Maine, son of farmers William Getchell Foster and Lydia Ann (Berry) Foster, natives of Clinton, Maine, and Burnham, Maine, respectively.

On 28 December 1903 in Pittsfield, Maine, Walter married Mattie Agatha Noble (1885-1933), daughter of Riley Noble and Laura Bell (Withee) Noble.

By the time of the 1910 Census, Walter and Mattie had moved to Portland, Oregon, where Walter was working as a bookkeeper. By 1920 they had two children and were living in McGilvra, Washington, where Walter worked as a Claims Agent for American Express. In 1930 the family was enumerated in Canyon, Washington, where Walter worked for Railway Express.  

By 1940, Mattie had died, and Walter was living alone in Wenatchee, Washington, still working for Railway Express.  He died in 1953.

Class of 1905 Technical High School, Providence, Rhode Island - IDed Erroneously as Sarah C. Wynne

Graduation photograph of a member of the Class of 1905 at Technical High School at Providence, Rhode Island.   The photograph was taken by the Edgar K. Horton studio of Providence, Rhode Island.

The graduate is identified on the reverse as, if I'm reading the identification correctly, Sarah C. Wynne, presumably Sarah Curtis Wynne.

However, the person in the photograph is a male, so I'm guessing that two photographs were stuck together when Sarah wrote her name on what she thought was the reverse of her own photograph.

This photograph was found with 15 others of graduates of Technical High School at Providence, Rhode Island.  See a list of the other graduates at the end of this post.

From brief online research, hopefully correct - corrections and additions requested:

Sarah Curtis Wynne was born October 22, 1887 at Lawrence, Massachusetts, the daughter of Isaac Wynne and Annie Hazard (Curtis) Wynne.  By 1900 the family was living at Providence, Rhode Island.  By 1910, Sarah was boarding at Burbank, California, and working as a stenographer at a wholesale grocery.

On March 9, 1921 at Burbank, California, Sarah C. Wynne married Henry W. Reynolds, son of A. B. Reynolds and Anna (Markley) Reynolds.   Sarah and Henry had at least one child, a daughter.  Henry had died by the time of the 1940 Census.  Sarah died in 1957 at Los Angeles.

From online research, hopefully correct: [corrections and additions welcome!]

Bartholomew Moore Parker (1878-1918) was born 5 July 1878 at Raleigh, North Carolina, son of Dr. Joseph Parker and Annie Maria (Moore) Parker.  They were born at Tarboro, North Carolina, and Raleigh, North Carolina, respectively.

On 10 August 1904 in Wake County, North Carolina, Bartholomew Moore Parker married Elizabeth Jiggetts Stamps, daughter of Edward Roe Stamps and Elizabeth Vines (Williams) Stamps.  They had at least three children:

• Annie M. Parker, born about 1906 in South Carolina
• Bettie S. Parker, born about 1907 in North Carolina
• Bartholomew Moore Parker, Jr., born 25 May 1909 in North Carolina.

Their mother Elizabeth died in 1910 when her youngest child was less than a year old.

On 10 November 1915, Bartholomew Moore Parker, Sr., married for a second time, to Margaret Augusta Faucett, daughter of Whitfield Anselone Faucett and Amelia Holmes (Taylor) Faucett.
They had at least one child, a son James Moore Parker.

Bartholomew Moore Parker, Sr., spent his life in the textile industry.  He became head of the Department of Carding and Spinning at North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts at West Raleigh, North Carolina.

Like his first wife, Bartholomew Moore Parker, Sr., also died young, on 12 October 1918 at Raleigh, North Carolina.  The 1920 Census shows his widow, Margaret Augusta (Faucett) Parker with the four children.

c1900 Photograph of John I. Frederick of Winterport, Maine

c1900 photograph of a young man identified on reverse as John I. Frederick.  The photograph was purchased with a collection of early 1900s photographs of University of Maine students, most taken around 1904.

Whether or not John attended the University of Maine, I haven't so far determined from a cursory look through issues of the Prism of likely years, but I suspect he did.

The actual reverse of the photograph, as shown below, is darker, but I altered it to make the signature stand out.

From online research, hopefully correct:

John I. Frederick was born about March 1878 at Winterport, Maine, son of Luther W. and Addie (Newcomb) Frederick, who were born at Winterport, Maine, and abutting Frankfort, Maine, respectively.

John's paternal grandparents were Isaiah and Emeline Frederick.  I don't have information on Addie's parents; Newcomb was her birth surname given on John's marriage record.

On 3 September 1902 at Winterport, Maine, John I. Frederick married Ellen M. Littlefield, daughter of Walter Scott Littlefield and Ada Estelle (Moody) Littlefield.

By 1905 John was listed in a publication as a principal at Winterport, Maine.    By 1910, as shown in the Census of Winterport, he and Ellen were farming potatoes.

They may be the John and Ellen who were living at Somerville, Massachusetts at the time of the 1920 Census.  Ellen died in 1921.
I haven't yet found information on John I. Frederick from this point.
