1881-1885 Autograph Album of Robert B. Wood of Spring Valley, New York

1881-1885 autograph album that belonged to Robert B. Wood, "Robbie", of Spring Valley, New York.  His name appears on the inside front cover.

The album was given to him as a Christmas present, presumably in 1881.

The album measures approximately 7" x 4-1/4" and contains the sentiments of 30 of Robbie's relatives, friends and schoolmates.  An alphabetical surname list and an alphabetical list of the signers, together with any personal information they offered, appear at the end of this post.

From online research, hopefully correct:  [corrections and additions welcome!]

Robert B. Wood was born about February 1870 in New York, the son, I believe, of James and Hannah M. (Hope) Wood.  I believe he had two siblings, older sister Anna Wood and younger sister Ella Hope Wood.

Several of the inscribers were members of the Wood family of Hillsboro, Texas [scroll down to Mr. and Mrs. William Wood.].  Robbie's paternal uncle, William Wood, had gone to Texas after the Civil War and was a postmaster and lumber yard operator at Hillsboro.  Others of his family who inscribed pages: wife Janet (Robertson) Wood, "Nettie", and children Jane/Jennie; Alice; William Jr/Willie; Mary/Mamie; and Martha/Mattie.  The way the pages are written, it seems that Robbie had visited them in Texas, rather than vice versa.

I believe Robert B. Wood married twice; first to Mary Estelle Sherwood in 1903, who died in 1920, and then to Florence, who survived him.  With Mary Estelle, he had a daughter Helen G. Wood, born about 1907.  Robert B. Wood died in 1937 and is buried with his first wife, Mary Estelle (Sherwood) Wood, at the Brick Church Cemetery at Spring Valley, New York.

1878-1916 Autograph Album of Mary Lizzie (Hunt) McNaught of Duxbury, Massachusetts & Plymouth, Massachusetts

1878-1916 autograph album that belonged to Mary Lizzie Hunt of Duxbury, Massachusetts, and, after her marriage to Henry Lincoln McNaught, Plymouth, Massachusetts.  Most of the pages were signed in Mary's youth; a few were signed after her marriage.

The album measures approximately 7" x 4-1/4" and contains the sentiments of 75 of Mary's relatives, friends and schoolmates at Partridge Academy at Duxbury, Massachusetts.  Partridge Academy was founded in 1844 with a bequest from the estate of George Partridge, a delegate to the Continental Congress and a U.S. Representative from Massachusetts.

An alphabetical list of the signers, including any residence and school information they added, appears at the end of this post.

From online research, hopefully correct:  [corrections and additions welcome!]

Mary Lizzie Hunt was born 4 June 1864 at Duxbury, Massachusetts, the daughter of Charles Warren Hunt and Bethiah J. (Leach) Hunt, who were born at Randolph, Massachusetts, and Bridgewater, Massachusetts, respectively.   The Bertha J. Hunt who signed a page on January 1, 1880, may have been Bethiah J. (Leach) Hunt.

As noted above, several of the signers indicated that they were students at Partridge Academy at Duxbury, Massachusetts; presumably Mary Lizzie Hunt was also a student there.

On 10 January 1889 at Kingston, Massachusetts, Mary Lizzie Hunt married Henry Lincoln McNaught, son of Thomas and Juliett (Delano) McNaught.  Henry was born 5 October 1862 at Duxbury, Massachusetts.  They moved to Plymouth, Massachusetts, and raised two children:
  1.  Bertha Allen McNaught, born 25 March 1890 at Plymouth, Massachusetts; became schoolteacher
  2.  Warren Henry McNaught, born 24 January 1894 at Plymouth, Massachusetts; became Army officer; married Marion Edna Ray
Bertha Allen McNaught of Plymouth, Massachusetts, inscribed two pages in her mother's album, once on November 6, 1901 and again on March 4, 1916.

Warren Henry McNaught also signed two pages in the album, once without leaving a date and again on September 4, 1907.  He may also have been the W. McNaught who signed a page on November 26, 1912.

Mary Lizzie (Hunt) McNaught died on 12 March 1918 at Plymouth, Massachusetts.
