Photograph of James J. Coleman and wife Hannah (Cate) Coleman of Fitchburg, Massachusetts; plus Photograph of James J. Coleman solo

Two photographs of James Joshua Coleman of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, one of which is a candid showing James and wife Hannah Smith (Cate) Coleman at their table.

James was born about 1833 in New Hampshire, son of Phineas and Comfort (Weeks) Coleman. James married Vermont native Hannah Cate, daughter of Nathan and Sarah Cate, at Lowell, Massachusetts, on 18 December 1866. James died, a widower, of Bright's disease, on 15 April 1903 at Fitchburg, Massachusetts.

The reverse of the photograph above, shown below, has information that allowed the couple's identification, based on the married name of their daughter Alice Gertrude (Coleman) Welch and the name George Cate, who I believe was Hannah's brother or other relative - he was presumably the person designated to receive this photograph as a gift.

Alice, born 23 July 1871 at Fitchburg, Massachusetts, married her second husband, widower Albert Welch on 25 December 1913 at Fitchburg, Massachusetts. She had divorced her first husband, Lewis W. Olmstead, whom she married on 26 October 1893 at Townsend, Massachusetts.
