Athens, Maine, in the 1820 Census

Athens, Maine, in Somerset County, in the 1820 Census.  Athens is larger in area today than it was in 1820, after annexing parts of Hartland and Brighton.

Note: the 1820 Census lists the names of heads of households only, with a tally of everyone in the household by age range and gender.

The enumeration of Athens appears on Sheets 146-151.  Note in the link that Sheet 146 is attributed to Palmyra in some online sources, but the bottom 5 heads of households are actually for Athens.  The enumerator forgot to put the new town name in the margin.  Sheets 147-151 are properly attributed to Athens.

The enumerator used phonetic spellings, which may have affected alphabetization.
