Hermon, Maine, in the 1820 Census

Hermon, Maine, in Penobscot County, in the 1820 Census.  See the names of heads of households farther below.

The 1820 Census lists the names of heads of households only, with a tally of everyone in the household by age range and gender.

Note: Some online indexes mistakenly assign all names on the first sheet on which Hermon appears as all Hermon residents, when in fact the top 8 names and tally aggregate pertain to Newport, Maine; those sources then attribute the 8 heads of households as Hermon residents.

The enumerated population of Hermon in the 1820 Census is shown as 277.  (This is the enumerator's figure and is not based on the error noted in the paragraph above.)

The enumeration of Hermon appears on Sheets 93 and 94; again, note that the very top portion of sheet 1, although not identified by town, is actually for Newport. Use the arrows at the top left of the image to page forward and back.

Note: The list of heads of households below contains several cases of what appears to be phonetic spelling and misspelling; check the entire list if you are looking for the name of a head of household from from Hermon in 1820.
