1836 Letter of Support for Capt. Elisha L. Lombard of Otisfield, Maine, to be Justice of the Peace

January 8, 1836 letter directed to the Governor's Council of the State of Maine in support of Capt. Elisha L. Lombard of Otisfield, Maine, a Democrat in a majority Republican town, for the position of Justice of the Peace.

To the Governor Council of the State of Maine
The subscribers are well acquainted with Capt. Elisha L. Lombard of Otisfield and know him to be a firm, unwavering active member of the Democratic Party - a man of strong memory, a good common sense and who has been hard pressed by his political opponents, the dominant party in his own town.  We respectfully recommend & desire that he receive from your Hon. Board the appointment of Justice of the Peace for the County of Cumberland.

From brief online research, hopefully correct - corrections and additions requested:

Elisha L. Lombard was born April 28, 1797 at Gorham, Maine; the place was stated on the 1860 U.S. Federal Census.  I found a couple online references, one  unsourced and one that referenced the Lombard Family History, 2001, that gave Elisha's middle name as  Little and which gave his parents as Thomas Lombard and Hannah (Linnell) Lombard.

Elisha married Deliverance Lombard at Otisfield, Maine, on October 24, 1822, daughter, I think, of John Lombard and Elizabeth (Sawyer) Lombard .  I believe Elisha and Deliverance had 10 children, five sons and five daughters.

Deliverance's gravestone gives her name as Dillia S. Lombard, unless Dillia was a subsequent wife, who died November 28, 1863, at the age of 63 years and 6 months.  I wonder if it was this same Elisha L. Lombard who married Rachel Barnes (Dunn) Bridgham, widow of Horatio Gates Bridgham, in 1864, and who adopted her daughters Persis Almeda and Harriet.  That Rachel died April 21, 1872.

Capt. Elisha L. Lombard died August 13, 1872, and is buried with Dillia in the Merrill Memorial Cemetery at Otisfield, Maine.
