1864/1865 Payments on Behalf of Wife of Civil War soldier Levi Pierce Stanhope of Robbinston, Maine; in 1860s/1870s Ledger of Financial Transactions of Robbinston

Levi Pierce Stanhope (1840-1922) - payments made in 1864 and 1865 on behalf of his wife Annie Sarah (Hayman) Stanhope (1841-1920) in Robbinston, Maine.

Found on numbered page 4 in a ledger of Robbinston, Maine, financial transactions from the mid 1860s to the 1870s.

Stanhope, age 24, was then serving in Company A of the 9th Maine Regiment.  It appears he had at least two enlistments, one in 1861 and another in 1864 at Dexter, Maine.

Levi Pierce Stanhope was born in 1840 at Robbinston, Maine, and married Annie Sarah Hayman about 1864; their several children would not be born until after the war.  They moved to adjacent Calais, Maine, where they farmed for many years.

Levi died in 1922 and is buried in Calais, Maine; his wife predeceased him in 1920.

If you have information on the Stanhope and Hayman families, please leave a comment or contact me directly.

The ledger measures about 13" by 8" by 1/2" and contains entries for almost 50 families and many pages of other financial transactions. About half of the 178 numbered pages have entries. The ledger is missing its covers; the first page of what remains is shown below.
