1864/1865 Payments on Behalf of Family in Robbinston, Maine, of Civil War Soldier William H. Campbell; in 1860s/1870s Ledger of Financial Transactions of Robbinston

William H. Campbell, serving in Company G of the 11th Maine: payments made in 1864 and 1865 to his parents and siblings in Robbinston, Maine.

Found on numbered page 8 in a ledger of Robbinston, Maine, financial transactions from the mid 1860s to the 1870s.

Payments made on behalf of:
  • Nathan Campbell, age 60; William's father
  • Olive Campbell, age 60; William's mother
  • Frank E. Campbell, age 15; William's brother
  • Nathan E. Campbell, age 8; William's brother

William H. Campbell, born about 1840 in Maine, appears to have enlisted twice, once on 10 September 1862 and again on 26 March 1864.

A record for a 22 year old William, in the Maine State Archives, reveals that his place of birth was Robbinston, Maine, with his then residence at some point after mustering out on August 14, 1863 as Houlton, Maine, and his occupation as farmer. Another Maine State Archives record, noting William's age as 23 years and 7 months, points to his then residence as Bristol, Maine, where he was working as a farmer.
