1864 Payments On Behalf of Mother in Robbinston, Maine, of Civil War Soldier John E. Morrell; in 1860s/1870s Ledger of Financial Transactions of Robbinston

John E. Morrell, age 21; then serving in Company F of the 11th Regiment; payments made in 1864 on behalf of his mother in Robbinston, Maine.  "Enlisted Novr. 7/64"

Found on numbered page 40 in a ledger of Robbinston, Maine, financial transactions from the mid 1860s to the 1870s.

Payments were made on behalf of:
  • Margarett S. Morrell, age 44; mother

John E. Morrell - perhaps the same person as Edward J. Morrell or Edward Judson Merrill.  Whatever name he originally went by or ended up using, I believe he was the  son of Daniel Pickle Morrell (abt 1817-1889) and Margaret S. (Rupert) Morrell (abt 1823-1912), both natives of New Brunswick, Canada.

Daniel Pickle Morrell was not mentioned as being in the household - perhaps a reader will provide a reason.

Several marriage records of the children of Edward J. Morrell of Portland, Maine, indicate he was born in Robbinston, Maine, and his wife in nearby Eastport, Maine.

Hopefully a reader will weigh in to clear up the confusion.
