Photograph of Young Woman Identified as Grace Crehore; Salem, Massachusetts studio

Photograph of a young woman identified on reverse as Grace Crehore.  The photograph was taken by Taylor & Preston of Salem, Massachusetts.

Researching online, I found a Grace S. Crehore in the 1920 Census of Salem, Massachusetts.  She indicated she was born about 1881 in New York, that she was widowed and that she operated a lodging house.  In the 1930 Census of Salem, there's a Grace S. Crehore, who was born about 1868 in New York, also widowed, and it appeared she had a lodging business as well.

I'm guessing they are the same person, but the age difference is a worry.

I couldn't find any earlier listings for Grace Crehore, which might have helped determine the first name of her husband.

If you have come across a Grace Crehore from Salem, Massachusetts in your family research, please leave a comment in the comments box or contact me directly.  I notice that the Crehore name was a familiar one in colonial New England.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Larry Crehore posted the comment below. But the Census shows Grace Crehore to be a widow - of course, she could have been enumerated incorrectly with her maiden name. Anything's possible, as we have found out over and over again. Thanks, Larry, for bringing this book to our attention!

    From the book:
    Crehore and Kin 1620-1961
    By Amy H.B. Crehore Falcon
There were two listings for Grace Evelyn Crehore:
    1) Grace Evelyn Crehore born 7 July 1861, she married Rev. Thomas W. Delong found on page 61 item number 229
    2) Grace Evelyn Crehore born 10 March 1888 in Sheffield Ohio, she married David Hunter found on page 77 item number 294
I hope this is some help in identifying the Grace Crehore in your photograph.
