Photograph of Edward Rush Ruggles of Vermont, Professor at Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire
Photograph of Edward Rush Ruggles, a Professor of Languages at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. Writing on the reverse indicates that the photograph was taken by W. E. Cutler of Hanover, New Hampshire. A stamp at lower right indicates this photograph was once in the Archives at Dartmouth College; a stamp overlaying indicates the photograph was discarded.
From online research, hopefully correct:
Edward Rush Ruggles was born 22 October 1836 or 1837 in Norwich, Vermont and died in 1897 of consumption. I haven't yet determined his parents. He married Charlotte Blaisdell, daughter of Hon. Daniel and Charlotte (Osgood) Blaisdell.
Charlotte Osgood (Blaisdell) Ruggles was a bit easier to trace. Her maternal grandparents were the Hon. Elijah William and Sarah (Fogg) Blaisdell. Her maternal grandparents were John Osgood and Sarah Porter. Edward Rush Ruggles and his wife Charlotte had, I believe, four or five children, one of whom, Daniel Blaisdell Ruggles, is pictured below:
