Photograph of an older man identified on the reverse as brother Robert of Lakeville, Maine. The photograph was intended as a gift for his sister Rossie Sawtelle.
Robert Sutherland and Rossie (Sutherland) Sawtelle were the children of George Sullivan and Margaret (McKenzie) Sutherland of Carroll, Maine, about ten miles from Lakeville. George was born about 1862 and Rossie about 1869.
In 1892 at Carroll, Maine, Rossie Sarah Sutherland married Thomas Gerald Sawtelle, son of John M. Sawtelle and Amanda (Merryfield) Sawtelle. Rossie and Thomas raised a family at Carroll, Maine, and later lived at Lakeville, Maine.
