First Issue of The Hebron Semester, November 1880, Vol. 1, No. 1, published at Hebron Academy at Hebron, Maine

Charter issue of The Hebron Semester, a student publication from Hebron Academy at Hebron, Maine.   The Editors were P. Benson Wing and George H. Berry.

See links to more issues of The Hebron Semester and other Hebron Academy memorabilia listed under Hebron, Maine, here.

An alphabetical list of the people mentioned in this publication, and any additional information about them, appears at the end of this post.

I believe this issue, which measures 8-3/4" by 6", once had covers, as do subsequent issues, but I'm not sure.  The inside cover of the subsequent issues has a table of contents, and the back covers, inside and out, feature advertisements.

The 22 pages of text include:
  • informative article about Hebron, Maine and its signature Academy, founded in 1805; Hamlin Library; the fine quartzes, lepidolite and tourmalines found in the area; the transportation options of the Rumford Falls and Buckfield Railroad; and the Grand Trunk Railway
  • essays; poetry
  • recap of the baseball season
  • editorial notes
  • obituary of student Hannah B. Whitman, aged 19
  • Board of Trustees
  • Board of Instructors
  • Students in the Classical Department
  • Students in the English Department
  • Tuition
A summary of students in the departments also mentions the Commercial Department and the Teachers Class, but these pages, if they once existed, are now missing.
