Cabinet photograph of a young man identified on the reverse as George Shannon Smith. Sadly, no studio imprint to give a clue to locale.
Although the photograph was acquired in Maine, there's no guarantee that George ever set foot in the State.
Interestingly, there was a George Shannon Smith who died at the age of 20 in 1918 in France in World War I, while serving with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Scots, but he was likely born too late to be the young man in this photograph.
