P.G.S. might have been Plymouth Grammar School, as there was a Ralph Prescott Gifford who was living in Plymouth, Maine, about that time.
Ralph was perhaps Ralph Prescott Gifford (1876-1936), son of Sylvanus Prescott Gifford (abt 1830-1895) and Sarah F. (Lord) Gifford (abt 1837-1896) of Plymouth, Maine. Ralph would marry Maud Harris (1880-1941) of Detroit, Maine, in 1899, when Ralph was farming in Plymouth and Maud was a student. Ralph later worked for the railroad. Neither of them listed an occupation on the 1930 Census.
As you can see from the map, Plymouth is not far from Pittsfield; it would not have been unusual for a Plymouth resident to travel to the larger community of Pittsfield to sit for a photograph.
If you have an alternate identity for the Ralph Gifford in the photograph, please leave a comment for the benefit of other researchers.
