Late 19th Century Calling Cards Album that Presumably Belonged to the Gillingham Family of South Newbury, New Hampshire

A scrapbook album containing nearly 80 calling cards of people mostly from the area around South Newbury, New Hampshire.

It appears that this album belonged to a member of the Gillingham family of South Newbury, because of the inclusion of numerous calling cards of siblings John Howard Gillingham (1877-1957) and Mary Zilpha Gillingham (1880-1949) and because of a tucked-in newspaper clipping about the 61st anniversary of their parents Benjamin Franklin Gillingham (1843-1927) and Martha Amariah (Fowler) Gillingham (1852-1929).

South Newbury, N.H.  Jan 6 - Mr. and Mrs. B. Frank Gillingham of this town will observe the 51st anniversary of their marriage Friday.  They were married in Concord, N.H., by Rev. Alfred E. Drew.

A pleasant celebration had been planned for their golden wedding anniversary one year ago, but owing to the illness of both Mr. and Mrs. Gillingham at that time only a few friends and neighbors were present.  The couple are life-long residents of South Newbury, Mr. Gillingham having been born Aug 10, 1843, in the home that he has since owned and occupied.

Mr. Gillingham filled nearly all of the town offices and was Representative in the State Legislature in 1879-1880.  Besides having made a success of farming in its many phases, he has for the past 20 years taken a great interest in amateur photography.

Mrs. Gillingham, who was Miss Martha A. Fowler, was also born here. Jan 29 1852, and previous to her marriage was a school teacher.  She was one of the charter members of the order of the King's Daughters.

They have two children, John H., who, with his family, resides with his parents, and Mrs. Mary Z. Sawyer of Mansfield, Mass.  Both Mr. and Mrs. Gillingham are at present enjoying good health.

Below, in alphabetical order, are the names on the calling cards, with a column of a possible match.
