1873-1925 Autograph Album of Eva J. Day (1867-1948) of Plymouth, Maine

1873-1925 autograph album that belonged to Eva J. Day (1867-1948) of Plymouth, Maine.

One of several pages that Eva inscribed

The album, a tiny one, measures about 4-1/4" by 2-3/4" and contains the sentiments of nearly 50 of Eva's relatives and friends.  An alphabetical list of the inscribers, together with any personal information they offered, appears at the end of this post.

Eva J. Day was the daughter of George W. Day (1834-1905) and Mary Ellen (?) Day (1838-1871) of Plymouth, Maine.  Eva's mother inscribed a page in the album.

I saw one reference online where an Eva married a Henry P. Bush at Waterville, Maine, on 7 January 1884, but I don't know if this is the same Eva J. Bush, as her burial record in the database Maine, Faylene Hutton Cemetery Collection, 1780-1990, gives her maiden name.  If the same person, perhaps she and Henry divorced, or the person entering the information on the original record for the Sawyer Cemetery at Plymouth, Maine, erred.

Interestingly, though, the album contains a page inscribed by an Eva Day at Waterville, Maine, which makes the Waterville connection a bit more concrete.

Another puzzle results from the entries of inscribers "Mrs. Gertrude Day" of Bangor, Maine, and "Miss Gertie Sawyer" of Hallowell, Maine.  Eva's sister Gertrude E. Day (1866-1944) married Winfield Sawyer.  Was Gertrude being facetious?  Hopefully a reader will weigh in.

The later inscriptions in the album appear to have come from the family of Herbert E. Clark and Elsie M. (Eaton) Clark.  Elsie's mother Helen M. (Day) Eaton, who inscribed the page below, was a sister to Eva's mother.
