Vintage Photograph of North Broad Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, showing Gandy Storage House and Nonpareil Laundry

Late 19th or early 20th century photograph of North Broad Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, showing the block that contained Gandy Storage House and Nonpareil Laundry.

The Gandy Storage House was operated by Lewis Gandy and his son Alfred Reeves Gandy.

Lewis Gandy was born about 1823 at Cape May, New Jersey, son of Uriah and Hannah (Willetts) Gandy.  He married Jane Ann Reeves, who was born about 1824 at Cumberland, New Jersey.

Their son Alfred Reeves Gandy married Tryphena Massey, who was born about February 1853 in Pennsylvania, daughter of Enoch and Elizabeth Massey, who were born in England and Scotland respectively.

Alfred and Tryphena had three children, a son Raymond Reeves Gandy, who practiced obstetrics at Stamford, Connecticut for many years; Florence Massey Gandy; and Bertha Ristine Gandy, who married Samuel R. Vanderbeck.

As for the Nonpareil Laundry, I found a notice online where it burned in 1914, at a loss of $25,000.  Two firemen received slight injuries while fighting the fire.
