Memorial Card: Frank Schwartz, born 1861; died June 2, 1908

Memorial card printed on the occasion of the death of Frank Schwartz, "Born in 1861, Died June 2, 1908, Age 47 years, 1 month".

From brief online research, hopefully correct, and hopefully with the correct Frank Schwartz:  [corrections, additions and alternate theories welcome!]

There's a Frank Schwartz with a death date of 2 June 1908, in the Montana Death Index 1907-2007. Whether or not this is the Frank Schwartz to whom the memorial refers, I don't know.  However, the birth year also seems to fit.  The record of Frank's August 32, 1893 marriage in Beaverhead County, Montana, to Catherine I. Macklem indicates that he was 32 years old and that his parents were Joseph and Anna (Woolman) Schwartz.  Her parents were John and Nancy (Patterson) Macklem.

The 1900 Federal Census of Havre, Montana, in Choteau County, contains a listing of a Frank Schwartz born August 1861 in Germany. His occupation was enumerated as wool grower. He had two other men in his household, each designed an employee. One, fellow German native Fred Sass, was listed as a coal miner. The other, Al Flanagan, a native New Yorker and son of Irish-born parents, was listed as a sheep herder.

This Frank Schwartz indicated that he had immigrated to the United States about 1880. Fred Sass had come earlier, about 1873.

If you have information on this or another Frank Schwartz who may be the subject of the memorial card, please leave a comment or contact me directly.

Just in case the Memorial Card is for the Frank Schwartz who lived at Havre, Montana:
