CDV of Helen L. Johnson, Class of 1878; Boston studio

Carte de visite of a young woman identified on reverse as "Helen L. Johnson, Class of '78", likely written in her own hand.  The CDV was produced by W. Shaw Warren of 41 Winter Street, Boston, Massachusetts.

Researching online, I found a family tree containing a Helen Louise Johnson, with the identical photograph attached, although that photograph didn't appear to be a CDV, or it was a CDV inserted into an album.

Helen Louise Johnson was born 27 March 1860 at Stoughton, Massachusetts, the daughter of Henry Lewis Johnson and Louisa May (Atherton) Johnson.

Helen's paternal grandparents were Lewis and Esther (Talbot) Johnson.  Her maternal grandparents were Hiram and Hannah (Stoddard) Atherton.

After graduating from high school in 1878, Helen moved on to Bridgewater State Normal School.

On 9 November 1887 at Stoughton, Helen married Arthur Samuel Metcalf, who was born Arthur Erastus Metcalf at Medway, Massachusetts on 5 November 1856, son of Samuel W. and Eliza J. (Partridge) Metcalf.  Apparently Arthur's middle name was changed  between the time of his birth and his marriage.

Arthur died in August 1914.  Helen then moved in with her elderly parents at Stoughton, as enumerated in the 1920 Census of Stoughton.  By the time of the 1930 census, Helen was living with a boarder in her household.  Her parents had probably passed away by that time.
