CDV of Mary Nelson (Nutter) Moses of Portsmouth, New Hampshire; taken by the Cook studio

Carte de visite of a woman identified on reverse as "Mary N. Moses, Great Grandmother of A. C. W."  The CDV was made by the Cook studio of 5 Congress Street, Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

From online research, hopefully correct: [corrections welcome!]

Mary N. Moses was born Mary Nelson Nutter about 1817 at Portsmouth, New Hampshire, daughter of Mark and Lydia (Nelson) Nutter.

Her paternal grandparents were Matthias and Anna (Trickey) Nutter.  Her maternal grandparents were Leander and Abigail (Brewster) Nelson.

On 31 January 1836 at Boston, Massachusetts, Mary Nelson Nutter married John Woodman Moses, son of Benjamin and Anna (Coleman) Moses.  He was born about 1813 at Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Mary and John had, according to one source I found, five children, three sons and two daughters: John H., born about 1837; Mary E., born about 1842; Anna Melissa, born about 1844; Horace W., born about 1850; and Clarence, born about 1855.

Daughter Anna Melissa Moses married William Wallace Cotton.  Their daughter, Elizabeth Gertrude Cotton, married Henry Albert Withington.  Their daughter, Anna C., who would be Mary Nelson (Nutter) Moses' great granddaughter, could be the A.C.W. in the identification.

Mary Nelson (Nutter) Moses died on 23 March 1883 at Portsmouth, New Hampshire.  Widower John Woodman Moses married Caroline W. Dunn on 3 January 1884 at Boston, Massachusetts.  He died in 1903.
