1888 Collector's Tax List Book, kept by Bowdoin Read Blackstone (1842-1921) of Perham Plantation, incorporated in 1897 to the town of Perham, Maine.
Alphabetical lists of the names in the book, with the lot(s) they owned, appear at the end of this post:
- an overall list of residents
- an overall list of non-residents
- of the residents, those residents living in District No. One
- of the non-residents, those having land in District No. One
- of the residents, those living in District No. Two
- of the non-residents, those having land in District No. Two
Note: After the lists shown above, Blackstone changed the date to 1889; several pages of names then follow, but the handwriting is much harder to decipher.
The book is just shy of 7" by 4" and is about a half inch thick, with a leather covering.
Also mentioned on the page above is James Nutting, who was the Tax Collector for Perham Plantation, and whose name also appears on the following page, along with the name of Civil War Brigadier General George Lafayette Beal (1825-1896), then Treasurer of the State of Maine.
The pages below contains the names of Lewis Blake Johnson (1827-1916), Treasurer of Aroostook County; Charles Ira Spaulding (1854-?), Treasurer of Perham Plantation, and Bowdoin Read Blackstone (1842-1921) and Henry Spear, Assessors of Perham Plantation.
This map is from 1877, but hopefully the lot numbers, if not the names of the owners, are the same as in 1888.
