Pages Signed by Laura J. Blood of East Knox, Maine, and Frank Blood in autograph bk of Bertha Clements of Waldo Center, Maine
Above is the page that Laura J. Blood of East Knox, Maine, signed in the autograph book of Bertha Clements of Waldo Center, Maine.
For a complete list of the people who signed the autograph book, images of many of the pages and a brief genealogy on the book's owner, see a previous post on Bertha Clements. As I work my way through the autograph book researching the signers, I've made their names clickable.
Laura didn't date her page but most of the autographs range in date from 1887 to 1891. I found a Laura J. Blood in Knox, who married Fred W. Braddock in 1887, so if she is the Laura J. Blood who signed above, she signed did so close to the time of her marriage.
There's also a page signed by a Frank Blood, dated 1887, with no town of residence. However, I found a Frank Blood living in the town of Knox in the 1880 Census, with his mother and grandmother. I believe Laura and Frank were cousins, but I'm hoping a Blood family researcher will come forward to clear up the mystery.
From online research, hopefully correct, and hopefully the right Laura J. Blood:
Laura J. Blood was born in March of 1865 in Maine, the daughter of James E. and Fidelia Ann (Hatch) Blood. I have no information on the parents of James E. Blood. Laura's maternal grandparents were Hiram and Mehitable Hatch. Hiram's parents were Prince and Hannah (Phillips) Hatch.
Laura J. Blood married Fred W. Braddock 10 September 1887 in Brooks, Maine. He was born in November of 1859 in Maine, the son of Joseph Henry Braddock and his wife Alvira. Laura and Fred had at least one child, a daughter, born about 1904.
Here's the page signed by Frank Blood:
Again, from online research and hoping I have the correct Frank Blood:
Frank J. Blood was born in May of 1866 in Maine, the son of Joseph and Harriet (Nason) Blood. As in the case of James E. Blood, I have no further information on Joseph Blood. Perhaps they were brothers. Frank's maternal grandparents were John and Cordelia (Mixer) Nason. I haven't yet found the names of John Nason's parents, but Cordelia's parents were George S. and Mary Polly (Crooks) Mixer, who appear in the family tree of the autograph book's owner, Bertha Clements.
Frank J. Blood married Wealthea, whose maiden name I don't have. It's possible she is the Wealthea who was married to Jacob E. Russ, as enumerated in the 1880 Census of Lincolnville, Maine.
Frank and Wealthea had at least one son, Guy F., born about 1890.
Below are images of the front of the autograph book, the page signed by Bertha Clements herself and the list of signers.
