Cabinet Photographs of Jennie Eliza (Thornton) Pierce, her son Charles Wilder Pierce & sister-in-law Elizabeth Frances Pierce

Cabinet photograph of a woman identified on the reverse as Jennie (Thornton) Pierce, wife of George A. Pierce and grandmother of Nancy Pierce Williams.

From online research, hopefully correct: [corrections welcome!]

Jennie Eliza Thornton was born 19 July 1859 at Coaticook, Quebec, the daughter of John Lothrop Thornton and Lucy (Baldwin) Thornton.

Jennie's paternal grandparents were John and Sarah (Lunt) Thornton.  Her maternal grandparents were Lotis and Sarah (Lamb) Baldwin.

About 1877 at Coaticook, Quebec, Jennie married George Albert Pierce, son of Charles Wilder Pierce and Mary Fletcher (Horton) Pierce.  George was born 2 December 1855 at Boston, Massachusetts.

They had at least two children, sons Carlos Thornton Pierce and Charles Wilder Pierce.  The latter, Charles Wilder Pierce, shown as a child in the photograph below, married Pauline Foster and had several children, including Nancy (Pierce) Williams, who provided the identifications on the photographs shown here.

The photograph was taken when Charles Wilder Pierce was 2 years and 4 months old.

George Albert Pierce died at Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1893.  In the 1900 and 1910 Censuses, Jennie and her two sons were living at Newton, Massachusetts.  At some point, either for good or for a visit, Jennie returned to Quebec, where she died in 1946.

Also found with these photographs was a photograph of Elizabeth Frances Pierce, sister of George Albert Pierce.  Elizabeth was the Chaplain General of the original chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution at Washington, D. C.

Nancy Pierce Williams wrote the identification on the reverse.
