1887-1901 Autograph Album of Addie M. Small of Machiasport, Maine

Autograph album given to Addie M. Small of Machiasport on Christmas Day in 1887 by her mother Laura (Colbeth) Small.  Addie wrote her name on the title page; her mother inscribed the presentation page.

The album measures approximately 7-3/4" by 5" and contains the sentiments of 50 of Addie's relatives and friends, including her younger twin brothers who each inscribed multiple pages throughout the album.  An alphabetical surname list and an alphabetical list of the inscribers, together with any personal information they offered, appear at the end of this post.

From brief online research, hopefully correct:  [corrections and additions requested]

Addie M. Small was born about September 1875, the daughter of Edward Small and Laura (Colbeth) Small of Machiasport, Maine.  The Edward Small who inscribed a page on December 25, 1877 was presumably Addie's father.

Addie's younger brothers, twins Burton T. Small, "Bertie", and Bartlett Foster Small, "Bartie", were born in 1877.  Sadly, Bertie died in 1895.  Both brothers inscribed multiple pages throughout the album; examples of a pages inscribed by Bertie and Bartie.

Addie included a page of names, with her own included.

I don't believe Addie ever married.  From 1920 through 1940, the Census of Machiasport, Maine, shows that Addie was living with the family of her brother Bartlett.   Addie's occupation in 1920 was listed as "clerk", but she was not working when the 1930 and 1940 Censuses were enumerated.

One inscriber, Clara F. Hooper, who inscribed a page in 1888, called herself Addie's "loving teacher".  Another inscriber, A. J. Whitney of Freedom, Maine, who inscribed a page at Machiasport, Maine, in 1889, was presumably Alden J. Whitney, who may have been teaching at Machiasport.
