1880s/1890s autograph album that belonged to Sallie Gibboney of Menno, Pennsylvania. Although Sallie didn't give her surname belong, a couple of the signers inscribed their pages to Sallie Gibboney.
The album measures approximately 7-3/4" x 4-1/4" and contains the sentiments of over fifty of Sallie's relatives, friends and schoolmates. An alphabetical surname list and an alphabetical list of the signers, together with any personal information they offered, appear at the end of this post.
The title page, above, mentions the Reedsville Bakery and Mrs. Roslie Isner.
From online research, hopefully correct: [corrections and additions welcome!]
Sara R. Gibboney, "Sallie", was born about 1865 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of John and Sarah (Hyle, I think) Gibboney.
Sallie's sister Mary Araminta (Gibboney) Wills of Belleville, Pennsylvania, signed a page in her album.
Two children of another of Sallie's sisters, Frances Catherine (Gibboney) Miller, also signed pages in her album. They were Maud May Miller, who signed her page at Belleville, Pennsylvania, on February 21, 1884, and her brother William J. Miller.
Other signers who expressed a relationship with Sallie, which may have been by blood, marriage or religious or social affiliation, and there were likely others, who didn't express a relationship:
- "Your Sister Kate", who signed a page at Menno, Pennsylvania, on April 18, 1885.
- Mrs. Kittie Patterson of Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, signed a page at Lewistown, Pennsylvania, in January 1891. "Dear Sister"
- George E. Wills of Belleville, Pennsylvania, signed on April 9, 1884; "Sister Sallie". He was the husband of Sallie's sister Mary Araminta (Gibboney) Wills
- Thomas Hyle, signed at Reedsville, Pennsylvania, on June 5, 1887; "Cousin"; presumably a relative of Sallie's mother Sarah (Hyle) Gibboney.
If you have corrections and/or additions to the information above, including information on Sallie's later life and information on any of the signers listed below, please leave a comment or contact me directly.
