Cabinet photograph, perhaps taken on the occasion of graduation, of Francis Burnham Purinton, Class of 1894 at Colby College in Waterville, Maine.
The photograph was taken by the Preble & Jordan studio in Waterville.
Francis Burnham Purinton (1872-1925), a native of Richmond, Maine, Bowdoinham, Maine, or Bowdoin, Maine, was the son of Amos Edwin Purinton and Sarah (Moore) Purinton, who had apparently moved their family to Waterville, Maine by the time of Francis' entry into Colby, as that was the residence he gave in a student directory.
In 1895, the year after his graduation, Francis married Annie M. Bates (1874-1964), daughter of Erastus W. Bates and Eliza J. (Lewis) Bates. Francis and Annie lived at Augusta, Maine, where Francis worked in the family business, Purinton Brothers, which dealt in wood and coal. They had at least one child, Willard Bates Purinton (1900-1977).
