Large sketchbook that belonged to Nellie Lenore Blunt. No locale given, but she was likely the Nellie L. Blunt who was born 30 June 1879, the daughter of James Madison Blunt and wife Charlotte (Cordray) Blunt.
This Nellie married Ernest King, who was born 18 October 1877. The couple farmed at Fairview, South Dakota, and raised a son, Everett Foster King.
The sketchbook contained a page at the back with some names, and I found some people of the same name living in Iowa, which led to my speculation about Nellie L. (Blunt) King. The names are:
- Nellie Blunt
- Helen Slack
- Fannie Cooke
- Mrs. Bradshaw [teacher or art teacher?]
- Martha Reisker [might have surname wrong]
If you have a different theory as to the identity of Nellie Lenore Blunt or if you recognize any of the other names on the page above, please leave a comment or contact me directly. Thanks!
Scans of pages, in page order:
Notice how the sketch of the castle, below, contains handwriting at the top left: "Residence of Nellie Lenore B"
In case the sketchbook belonged to Nellie (Blunt) King of Iowa and South Dakota, here are maps of Fayette, Iowa and Fairview, South Dakota.
