Late 1800s/early 1900s photo of Dr. Frank Wilson Clarke of Lincoln County, Maine
Cabinet photo of a young man identified on reverse as Dr. Frank W. Clarke, taken by the Z. B. Osgood studio of Main Street, Damariscotta, Maine.
Frank looks young in the photograph; perhaps he had not yet received his medical degree.
Frank Wilson Clarke was born 3 April 1874 at Nobleboro, Maine, the son of James Wilson Clarke and Laura E. (Oliver) Clarke, who were also born at Nobleboro.
His paternal grandparents were James and Maria Louisa (Jones) Clarke. His maternal grandparents were James T. and Catherine (Bornheimer) Oliver.
Frank was a graduate of the 1905 Medical Class at Bowdoin College.
On 5 July 1898, at Belmont, Massachusetts, Frank Wilson Clarke married Martha Victoria Kay of Pennsylvania. She was born in 1872 at Catasauqua, Pennsylvania, daughter of Joseph D. and Eleanor S. Sharples, English immigrants to Pennsylvania.
Dr. Clarke and wife Martha, "Mattie", moved to Bristol, Maine, where they raised a family of three daughters. Dr. Clarke died suddenly in 1925. I found a reference online where his surviving family blamed his death on the harsh Maine weather and subsequently moved to Rhode Island.
If you have any corrections or insights regarding the Clarke and Kay families, please leave a comment or contact me directly.
