Tintype of a man identified in a contemporary hand on an accompanying paper scrap as "John R. Marston, Died February 26, 1884 in Kenduskeag".
He was John R. Marston (1811-1884), a native of North Yarmouth, Maine, who died in Kenduskeag, Maine.
Interestingly, the tintype shown on his FindaGrave Memorial appears to be the same tintype, with the same damage in the lower right, as the one I purchased and am holding in my hand.
From brief online research, hopefully correct - corrections and additions requested:
By 1850, John R. Marston had moved to Bangor in Penobscot County, Maine, where he was working as a cooper. He married Maria L. Hodsdon (1822-unk) of Levant on 17 November 1852.
Subsequent censuses show that they moved to farm in nearby Kenduskeag, Maine. Censuses:
John died on 26 February 1884 in Kenduskeag and is buried in the Kenduskeag Village Cemetery. I haven't found a death record for Maria.
If you have corrections and/or information to share on the people mentioned above, please leave a comment for the benefit of other researchers.
