Carte de Visite of Hannah Taylor by a Burlington, New Jersey studio; sister of Dr. Joseph Wright Taylor, founder of Bryn Mawr College

Carte de Visite of an older woman identified on the reverse as Hannah Taylor.  Someone later added that she was the only sister of Dr. Joseph Taylor, founder of Bryn Mawr College.

The CDV was produced by the studio of Torr & Jeffries of 100 East Broad Street, Burlington, New Jersey.

From online research, hopefully correct: [corrections and additions welcome!]

Despite conflicting information, I believe that Hannah Taylor was born 21 March 1808 at Bordentown, New Jersey, the daughter of Dr. Edward and Sarah (Merit/Merritt) Taylor.

As noted on the identification, she was the only female among the seven siblings, all of whom were older than she, except the aforementioned Joseph Wright Taylor.

I found an online tree that showed that a Hannah Taylor with the same parents married John Cooley, son of Philip and Margaret (Barton) Cooley. They had three children.

Other information suggests that Hannah died unmarried. Hopefully a reader will clear up the mystery.  I'm leaning toward thinking she never married, as it seems that if she had been married the identification would have included her married name, as she was not young when the photograph was taken.

If you have corrections to the information above, or additions to it, please leave a comment or contact me directly.
