5 Tintypes of Groups of Men, likely from the Bangor, Maine area

Five tintypes of men in a collection of about 50 tintypes purchased at a Bangor, Maine show in 1990. I was told the folks in the tintypes were from the Bangor area, though I obviously can't confirm that.

To see more of the tintypes in this collection, use the search box at right and enter Bangor tintypes.

The tintypes in this post do not have backings, but I've included scans of two that do, to show the Bangor, Maine connection, of those two at least.

The wonderful tintype above shows a group of men in their working clothes, with a more fancily dressed man in the background, perhaps their employer.

Notice the stump used as a prop in the tintype below. Bangor was a lumbering mecca.

As noted above, there are only two tintypes in the entire collection (neither of them on any of the five pictured above) that had a label from the photographer; both were from Bangor, Maine. One was J. P. Merrill; the other was A. B. Farrar.

If you recognize any of these men from your family albums or research, please leave a comment below or contact me directly.
