1892 Supper and Dance Program, with Dance Card, Grange Hall, North Jay, Maine, on Thursday evening, January 28, 1892.No names printed on the front, but the owner of this program mentioned the names of dance partners on the reverse:
- A. R. Kyes (twice) - perhaps Arthur R. Kyes (1869-1934)
- A. C. Macomber - perhaps Arthur C. Macomber (1871-1950)
- H. H. Allen - perhaps Heber H. Allen (1860-1936)
- J. W. Cox - perhaps John Wesley Cox (1859-1946)
- F. N. G.
At one time, even possibly as late as 1892, it was considered daring if a woman danced with the same man more than once, unless she was engaged or married. Interestingly, there's a record showing that Arthur M. Kyes married Ella M. Davenport in 1893. Perhaps this was Ella's card, and perhaps she was already engaged to Arthur or perhaps it was the sight of Ella dancing with the others that got Arthur to propose?
