Vintage Photograph of Childhood Home of Geoffrey Rice Thayer and Barbara Thayer of Allston, Massachusetts

Vintage photograph of a house identified on reverse as 24 Mansfield Street, Allston, Massachusetts, childhood home of Geoffrey Rice Thayer and his sister Barbara Thayer.

From online research, hopefully correct: [corrections welcome]

Geoffrey Rice Thayer and Barbara Thayer were the children of dentist Samuel Weston Thayer and Gertrude Martha (Rice) Thayer.

Their paternal grandparents were George W. and Mary Jane (Hussey) Thayer.  Their maternal grandparents were Charles Edmund Rice and Hannah Augusta (Puffer) Rice.

Geoffrey Rice Thayer was born 3 February 1891 at Allston, Massachusetts.  He graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1913 and was working as an electrical engineer at Bluefield, West Virginia, when he succumbed to the Influenza in 1918.  Not long before his death, he married Meta A. Jordan of Bluefield, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Jordan.

Barbara Thayer was born 24 May 1894 at Allston or Boston, Massachusetts.  In 1914, she graduated from the State Normal School of Framingham, now known as Framingham State College.  I believe she taught in the elementary grades.  The Barbara Thayer Brown Scholarship is awarded annually in her name.  I haven't found the first name of her husband, Mr. Brown.  Barbara died at Chatham, Massachusetts, in 1991.
