1883-1886 Autograph Album of A. Louise Staples of Waltham, Massachusetts, with Many Inscriptions from Maine

1883-1886 autograph album of Anna Louise Staples, "Annie", of Waltham, Massachusetts.  She was born in Maine; many of the inscriptions were made by people in Oxford and Androscoggin Counties in Maine.

The album measures approximately 7-3/4" by 5" and contains the sentiments of 41 of Louise's relatives and friends.  An alphabetical surname list and an alphabetical list of the inscribers, together with any personal information they offered, appear at the end of this post.

From brief online research, hopefully correct:  [corrections and additions requested!]

Anna Louise Staples was born August 22, 1859 according to a "Copy of an Old Record of a Birth", or 1858, according to her gravestone, the daughter of George W. Staples and Flora (Andrews) Staples, who were born in a town in Oxford County, Maine, and Minot, Maine, respectively.

Annie may have been working at Waltham, Massachusetts, as did many young women of her generation.

I believe that the Lizzie F. Staples who inscribed a page on November 23, 1887 at Welchville, a village in Oxford, Maine, was Annie's sister, though Lizzie didn't note a relationship.

Horace E. Andrews, an organ tuner receiving mail at Box 41, Welchville, Maine, indicated that he was Annie's cousin, presumably through Annie's mother Flora (Andrews) Staples.

According to her gravestone, Annie died in 1941.  She's buried in the Craigie Cemetery at Oxford, Maine, with family members.  If you have corrections and/or additions to the information above, please leave a comment or contact me directly.
