Memorial Autograph Album for Clara Woodman Whittier (1865-1880) of Foxcroft, Maine; all dated Inscriptions from the day of her Death and after

This appears to be a memorial autograph album for Clara Woodman Whittier (1865-1880), "Callie", who died December 21, 1880. All dated inscriptions are from the day of her death or after, even as late as 1886.

It appears that Callie's family and her classmates at Foxcroft Academy in Foxcroft, Maine, were determined to keep her memory alive.

In 1922, Foxcroft would merge with its neighbor, Dover, across the Piscataquis River, to form Dover-Foxcroft, Maine.

Was it Callie herself or someone else who inscribed her name on the first end paper?

The album measures approximately 7-1/4" by 4" and contains the sentiments of 56 of Callie's relatives, friends, classmates and schoolmates.  An alphabetical list of the inscribers appears at the end of this post.

Clara Woodman Whittier, "Callie", was born about 1865, the daughter of Ira P. Whittier and his second wife Lucretia P. (Haskell) Whittier of Foxcroft, Maine. Callie died of "consumption", presumably tuberculosis, at Lawrence, Massachusetts, perhaps at the home of her older half-brother Lorenzo D. Whittier (1845-1913).

Lorenzo  and his wife Annie E. (Harvey) Whittier inscribed pages in her memorial album, Annie on the day of Callie's death and Lorenzo a few months later.

Callie's paternal aunt by marriage, Hannah Folsom (Fogg) Whittier (1820-1895), wife of Callie's uncle Daniel Barker Whittier, inscribed a page on October 12, 1881.
