Autograph album with inscriptions from 1891 that belonged to Alice Marshall, presumably of Providence, Rhode Island, in the Class of 1891. I believe this was the Class of 1891 at Providence High School, but one inscriber mentioned C.S.C.
The album, overstuffed and diamond-shaped, measures approximately 5-1/2" by 5" and contains the sentiments of 45 of Alice's friends and classmates. An alphabetical list of the inscribers, together with any personal information they offered, appears at the end of this post.
Surnames in the Album
From brief online research, hopefully correct - corrections and additions requested:
Alice Marshall may have been Alice Mitchell Marshall, born November 7, 1877 in Rhode Island, the daughter of Andrew and Eliza Marshall. This Alice married Hugh Albert Walker on May 27, 1902. The couple had at least two children before Alice's untimely death in 1910. She's buried in the Pocasset Cemetery at Cranston, Rhode Island.

I do know that Reuben H. Dowler was an artist from the providence /edgewood section of Cranston. He was the uncle of Charles Gordon Harris who is a very well listed Rhode island artist. The Dowler family was artistic and were involved with metal work and sculpting. I believe that there is a statue in roger Williams park that was made by Reuben Dowler as well.

DeleteMy grandmother Gladys Darling was married (second marriage) to Albert Dowler from about the 40's - 90's. I have a pastel from their home by Rubin H. Dowler. Does anyone have the connection between the two. He was always my Uncle Al but I never knew much about his family.
