Autograph album that was given to "Earnest Spence" at Christmas in 1883 by the Presbyterian Sabbath School at Niagara Falls South, Ontario.
Interestingly, "Papa", inscribed a page at Brooklyn, New York, in 1886. If "Papa" was Ernest's father, was he visiting Ernest, who perhaps was living or studying at Brooklyn, New York? Had the entire family moved, at least for a time? Was "Papa" Ernest's grandfather?
The album measures approximately 6-1/4" by 4-3/4" and contains only 4 inscriptions. The other two inscriptions:
Aunt Annie Burgess; inscribed at Niagara Falls South, on April 25, 1885; presumably the sister of Ernest's mother Grace (Burgess) Spence.
Hanna E. Leeds of Lincoln, Illinois; inscribed on September 9, 1887 at Niagara Falls, Ontario. Presumably the daughter of Dr. Lucien LaVassa Leeds and Hannah (Wilson) Leeds.
From brief online research, hopefully correct, and hopefully with the correct Ernest Spence - corrections and additions requested:
Ernest was presumably the William Ernest Spence who was born December 8, 1871 in Ontario, Canada, the son of William Spence and Grace (Burgess) Spence. Sadly, Ernest died on September 14, 1891; he's buried in the Drummond Hill Cemetery at Niagara Falls, Ontario.
If you have corrections and/or additions to the information above, or if you feel that Ernest was another person, please leave a comment or contact me directly.
