1905-1908 Autograph Album of Ila Mildred Estes of Holden, Maine

Autograph album given as a Christmas present in 1905 to Ila Mildred Estes of Holden, Maine, by her maternal aunt Lillie Belle (Goss) Gilmore.

Ila inscribed a dedication page for the benefit of those who would inscribe pages in her album.

Aunt Lillie Belle (Goss) Gilmore inscribed an individual page.  Her husband, Willie Sweet Gilmore, and their daughter Ethel also inscribed pages.

The album measures approximately 7" by 4-1/2" and contains the sentiments of 30 of Ila's relatives and friends.  An alphabetical surname list and an alphabetical list of the inscribers, together with any personal information they offered, appear at the end of this post.

From brief online research, hopefully correct - corrections and additions requested:

Ila Mildred Estes was born February 12, 1890, the daughter of Charles Owen Estes and Cora May (Goss) Estes.   The 1920 Census pinpoints the location of the Estes farm as on Mann Hill Road in Holden, Maine.

Ila had at least two siblings, Gladys Olive Estes, or Olive Gladys Estes, and Harry Roscoe Estes, both of whom inscribed pages in the album.  Harry's future wife, Lillian Hatch, also inscribed a page, facing Harry's, in the album, on her "seventeen birthday", November 28, 1906.

On August 28, 1926, Ila became the second wife of Guy Howard Penley, son of Howard S. Penley and Eva S. (Stevens) Penley.  Guy died in 1956 and Ila in 1979.  They're buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Brewer, Maine.

If you have corrections and/or additions to the information above or information on any of the inscribers listed below, please leave a comment or contact me directly.
