Autograph album that was presented to Lillie F. Arey for "Excellence in Spelling" by her teacher Edw. C. Bennett. Lillie was Lillian Frances Arey or Frances Lillian Arey of Bucksport, Maine.
Since some of the inscriptions were made by students at East Maine Conference Seminary at Bucksport, I believe Lillie was also a student there.
The album measures approximately 7" by 4-1/4" and contains the sentiments of nearly 70 of Lillie's relatives, friends, schoolmates and teachers. An alphabetical surname list and an alphabetical list of the inscribers, together with any personal information they offered, appear at the end of this post.
From brief online research, hopefully correct - corrections and additions requested:
Lillian Frances Arey was born in 1868 at Bucksport, Maine, the daughter of Stephen H. Arey and Sophia H. (Pedrick) Arey. Lillie's sisters Lizzie and Eunice inscribed pages in her album, in 1880 and 1890 respectively, but for some reason Blanche's entry is crossed out.
Eunice D. (Anderson) Arey also inscribed a page; she was the wife of Lillie's brother William W. Arey.
Additionally, numerous cousins and great aunt Mary E. Bates inscribed pages; see the list of inscribers at the end of this post. Other people who expressed a relationship [there were undoubtedly others, who didn't mention a specific relationship]:
- Anna B. Arey, cousin
- Benjamin Arey, cousin
- George P. Homer, cousin
- Maria R. Homer, cousin
On December 23, 1893 at Bucksport, Maine, Lillie married Bucksport native Leonard H. Pratt, son of Leonard B. Pratt and Evelyn (Atwood) Pratt. Interestingly, Leonard inscribed a page in Lillie's album.
Lillie and Leonard farmed at Bucksport, Maine. Leonard died in 1936 and Lillie in 1943. They're buried in the Riverview Cemetery at Bucksport, Maine, with relatives from the Pratt and Arey families.
If you have corrections and/or additions to the information above, or information on any of the inscribers listed below, please leave a comment or contact me directly.
One page was inscribed at Bucksport Centre, Maine, on April 30, 1884, by six people named Platt and Cummings.
