Autograph album that was presented to Jennie E. Levensailor of Atkinson, Maine, by her teacher E. Leora Barney on July 3, 1896; inscription on the inside front cover, below.
E. Leora Barney inscribed another page as well, November 11, 1896.
The album measures approximately 8-1/4" by 4-3/4" and contains the sentiments of 26 of Jennie's relatives, friends, schoolmates and two teachers. An alphabetical surname list and an alphabetical list of the inscribers, together with any personal information they offered, appear at the end of this post.
Another teacher to inscribe a page in the album, on December 28, 1899, was Clare M. Rideout of Charleston, Maine.
From brief online research, hopefully correct - corrections and additions requested:
Jennie Eva Levensailor was born September 19, 1891 at Atkinson, Maine, the daughter of Stephen Wentworth Levensailor and Flora A. (Chase) Levensailor. Jennie's father inscribed a page in her album.
Jennie was, I think, the second youngest of eleven children. Several of her siblings and other relatives inscribed pages in the album. Those who expressed a relationship or whose relationship was easy to tease out were:
- Mary A. (Levensailor) Chase, wife of Frank W. Chase; inscribed at South Atkinson, Maine, on July 29, 1899. Jennie's sister
- A. Levensailor; Jennie's brother, possibly Alfred Llewellyn Levensailor
- Ernest Levensailor of Sebec Station, Maine; inscribed on August 17, 1907; presumably Jennie's brother Ernest Stanley Levensailor
- Mabel Levensailor of South Atkinson, Maine; inscribed on July 29, 1899. Jennie's sister
- Stephen W. Levensailor of South Atkinson, Maine; inscribed on November 15, 1896. Since his handwriting appears to be that of a young person, I presuming he was Jennie's brother
- Gertrude Chase, presumably Jennie's niece, the daughter of Jennie's sister Ella Frances (Levensailor) Chase and Aaron Chase. Unless Gertrude and "Gertie" were two different people, Gertrude inscribed two pages, one at Maple, Maine, in 1899 and another at Dover, Maine, in 1903
- Cyntha or Cynthia B. Levensailor; inscribed on May 7, no year written. Jennie's cousin. Daughter of Josephine (Soule) Levensailor and John Levensailor, who was a brother to Jennie's father.
- Harry Levensailor; inscribed in 1904. Jennie's cousin. Son of Josephine (Soule) Levensailor and John Levensailor, who was a brother to Jennie's father.
Jennie Eva Levensailor married twice:
- William Havelock McDougall; married at Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, on June 20, 1912
- Walter Jones; married on October 17, 1956
Jennie died in 1976. I'm assuming she's buried in the Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, area. If you have corrections and/or additions to the information above, please leave a comment or contact me directly.
