Bible that belonged to the Leighton, Fish, Little, King and related families of Midcoast Maine.  Surnames include:

The Bible, which measures approximately 9-1/2" by 6-1/2" by 2-1/2", was published by T. Carlton & J. Porter of 200 Mulberry Street, New York, New York.  There's no date of publication, but I suspect it was the mid 1800s.

The Bible was originally owned by Samuel Leighton and wife Adaline (Hatch) Leighton.   Adaline died in 1873, and Samuel subsequently married Elizabeth (Fish) Little, widow of Benjamin Little, with whom she had several children.  Most of the entries in the Family Record pages deal with Elizabeth's children from her first marriage.  Samuel and Elizabeth had no children together.

In addition to births, marriages and deaths, the Bible has some notations concerning events in the area, including sermons preached by named ministers and tombs constructed.  It also includes a few items tucked in, including newspaper clippings, needlework, religious items and two four-leaf clovers.

The first front end paper bears the names:

Obituary of Rev. Cushman E. Harden (1840-1897), who died a McLain's Mills in Appleton, Maine, after a few days' sickness.  He was born in Lamoine, Maine, and graduated from Colby College and became a Baptist minister.  He's mentioned in several posts featuring 1880s issues of The Hebron Semester, a student publication at Hebron Academy where Rev. Harden was a chaplain at one time.  He's buried with wife Abbie (Whitaker) Harden in Forest Hill Cemetery at Lamoine, Maine.

1877-1879 Autograph Album of Fred H. Means Witham of Surry, Maine; while Student at Eastern Maine Normal School at Castine, Maine

1877-1879 autograph album of Fred H. Means Witham of Surry, Maine, while he was attending Eastern State Normal School at Castine, Maine.

The album measures approximately 7-1/4" by 4-1/4" and contains the sentiments of 113 of Fred's relatives, friends, fellow schoolmates at Eastern State Normal School and possibly some of the administrative staff.  An alphabetical surname list of the inscribers, together with any personal information they offered, appears at the end of this post.

Some of the students mentioned are named in an 1880 Eastern State Normal School catalog, which is the subject of another post.  The campus of Eastern State Normal School, which operated from 1867 to 1942, is now the campus of Maine Maritime Academy.

Fred H. Means Witham was born January 27, 1859 at Surry, Maine, son of Frederick W. Witham and Cathalena (Means) Witham, "Kate".  At some point after his time at Eastern State Normal School, Fred moved to Portland, Maine, to teach.  On July 3, 1915 at Portland, Maine, he married Charlsie T. Sartor of Texas, also a teacher.

Fred died shortly after, on January 20, 1917 at Portland, Maine, and is buried at Surry, Maine.  His death record indicates that he had suffered from cancer for 18 months; perhaps he knew about his diagnosis at the time of his marriage or perhaps it came as a shock not long into the marriage - tragic either way.

One page in the autograph album contains the autographs of eight members of the Wescott Club, presumably at Eastern State Normal School, inscribed on April 30, 1878.  The inscribers were Elvie G. French; Ida M. Wyman; Lizzie G. Rice; Sadie L. Staples; Carrie Gray; Lettie T. Phipps of East Orrington, Maine (who also inscribed an individual page); Ella M. Smith and Kate A. Clark of Tremont, Maine (who also inscribed an individual page).

Sadly, the page inscribed so hopefully on September 7, 1878 at Eastern State Normal School at Castine, Maine, by Charles E. Allen of Garland, Maine, has a newspaper death notice tucked in.  Charles died November 9, 1880 and is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery at Garland, Maine.

1886-1918 Autograph Album with Inscriptions from Thomaston, Maine and Area

Autograph album with inscriptions by folks from Thomaston, Maine, and surrounding communities, and two from Massachusetts, but with a Thomaston connection.  Most of the inscriptions were made in the 1880s, with several from the 1890s and two from 1918.

The album measures approximately 6" by 3-3/4" and contains illustrations throughout, as well as the sentiments of 18 people from Maine and Massachusetts.  An alphabetical surname list and an alphabetical list of the inscribers, together with any personal information they offered, appear at the end of this post.  Many of the people appear to have been related.

There's no owner's name in the beginning of the album, nor is any inscription directed to a person by name. The first inscription in the album occurs several pages after the title page and was inscribed by Irene M. Robinson of Warren, Maine, on January 11, 1886.  This does happen to be the earliest inscription in the album, whether that is a clue to the owner's name or not.

It's tempting to think that the facing pages inscribed in 1918 by Willis John Winchenbach and wife Adda (Murray) Winchenbach of Whitinsville, Massachusetts, might be another clue to identity of the album's owner.   Willis was a Thomaston, Maine, native.

Willis had several siblings, one of whom, Alton Winchenbach, inscribed a page in the album, so he can theoretically be ruled out as the album owner.  Willis' other siblings were Everett Otis Winchenbach; Mary Vinal Winchenbach; Hazel Winchenbach; and Lewis Winchenbach, one of whom might have been the album owner.

I'm wondering if the Aaron Winchenpaw who inscribed a page, was actually the siblings' father, who used a variant spelling of the surname.  If so, his daughter Mary Vinal Winchenpaw, who inscribed a page, might be another of Willis' siblings, and thus can be ruled out as the owner of the album.

The album resurfaced for use in 1951 when the owner, presumably, noted the downpour of July 19, 1951.  Interestingly, Everett Otis Winchenbach lived until 1962.

1889-1891 Autograph Album of Estella Harris, "Stella", of Modesto, Illinois

Autograph album that student Stella Harris commenced on February 14, 1889; perhaps a Valentine's Day gift.  Stella was presumably Estella Harris of Modesto, Illinois, daughter of Sidney Thomas Harris and Susan Elizabeth (McPherson) Harris.

The album measures approximately 5" by 3" and contains the sentiments of 23 of Stella's relatives, friends, schoolmates and teachers.  An alphabetical list of the surnames mentioned in the album and an alphabetical list of the inscribers, together with any personal information they offered, appear at the end of this post.

From brief online research, hopefully correct - corrections and additions requested:

According to her California death record, Estella Harris, "Stella", was born January 1, 1882 in Illinois, and died in 1944 in Los Angeles, California.  However, her Find a Grave memorial indicates she was born February 26, 1881; she's buried in the Waverly East Cemetery at Waverly, Illinois.

Stella, the daughter of Sidney Thomas Harris and Susan Elizabeth (McPherson) Harris, is listed as Estella Harris in a 1901 University of Illinois (the Urbana-Champaign campus) publication.  Since Stella was buried at Waverly, Illinois, I'm assuming she is the Miss Estelle Harris who started a movement in 1911 for the establishment of a Carnegie Public Library at Waverly.

188-1889 autograph album that belonged to "Mamie", presumably a student at the high school at Southwest Harbor, Maine.

The album measures approximately 5-1/4" by 3-1/4" and contains the inscriptions of eight of Mamie's schoolmates and friends.  Images of those pages and an alphabetical list of their names appear at the end of this post.

Several pages have been removed from the album, including the first end paper.  My guess is that Mamie's full name appeared on the first end paper and that this page and others were removed by someone interested in the genealogy of Mount Desert Island, perhaps even a descendant or relative.
