The album measures approximately 7" by 4-1/4" and contains the sentiments of over 80 of Hattie's relatives, friends and schoolmates. An alphabetical list of the inscribers, together with any personal information they offered, appears at the end of this post.
Surnames in the Album
From brief online research, hopefully correct - corrections and additions requested:
Hattie R. Earnheart was born October 2, 1869 at Fairbury, Illinois, the daughter of James Franklin Earnheart and Edith Carr (Moore) Earnheart, assuming that the informant on her death record was correct. Hattie had several siblings, one of whom, Mary Ophelia (Earnheart) Odell, inscribed a page in the album. Ophelia was the wife of Jerome A. Odell.
Hattie married twice, I believe:
- Alphonso Lafayette Chandler, on April 17, 1889 in Livingston County, Illinois
- Byrl Joseph Wunderlich, on June 27, 1907 at Chicago, Illinois
I believe Hattie had two children with her first husband. She died at Elgin, Illinois, in 1947 and is buried in the Graceland Cemetery at Fairbury, Illinois.
People who expressed a kinship with Hattie - and there were likely more who did not express a kinship:
- Lizzie D.; "your loving Aunt"
- B. C. Dennis; inscribed on May 17, 1884. Hattie's uncle Baxter C. Dennis, husband of Elizabeth Melissa (Earnheart) Dennis, sister of Hattie's father James Franklin Earnheart
- Dell Dennis; inscribed at Bardolph, Illinois, on May 28, 1884. Hattie's cousin. Dell also contributed to a shared page and may have been the D. D. who inscribed another page.
- Carrie Earnheart; inscribed at Chenoa, Illinois; inscribed on July 28, 1884. Hattie's cousin. She may have inscribed more than one page or Hattie had more than one cousin Carrie who inscribed a page
- L. T. Earnheart; inscribed at Chenoa, Illinois, on September 24, 1884. If the initials are L. T., inscriber might have been Lucian Thayer Earnheart, son of Leonides Hamlin Earnheart, who was a brother to Hattie's father James Franklin Earnheart
- Willie Earnheart; inscribed at Chenoa, Illinois, on July 27, 1884. Hattie's cousin
- Carrie Fowler; inscribed at Blandinsville, Illinois, on May 30, 1884. Hattie's cousin Carrie B. (Dennis) Fowler, wife of John H. Fowler, who inscribed the left facing page.
- John H. Fowler; inscribed at Blandinsville, Illinois, on May 30, 1884. Called himself Hattie's cousin, but he was the husband of Hattie's cousin Carrie B. (Dennis) Fowler, who inscribed the right facing page.
- Cynthia E. Francis; inscribed at Forrest, Illinois, on March 7, 1885. She was Hettie's sister, Cynthia Ellen (Earnhart) Francis, wife of Albert Francis
- George F. Hall of Des Moines, Iowa; inscribed at Fairbury, Illinois, on February 28, 1884. Hattie's cousin
- Mittie Hall of Clarksville, Iowa; inscribed on May 5, 1884. Hattie's cousin
- Len Moon; not sure of either name; inscribed at Clarksville, Iowa, on October 2, 1887. Hattie's cousin
- Ophelia Odell; inscribed in the summer of 1884. Hattie's sister Mary Ophelia (Earnheart) Odell, wife of Jerome A. Odell.

I have family in Fairbury, Illinois and they are familiar with many of these names. I think the Fairbury Historical Society would be very interested in this. Is this for sale or a private holding?
ReplyDeleteYes, the album is available for sale, and there's another one of Hattie's also. Email address is on the blog post in right hand margin under Inquiries. There are also Fairbury inscribers in other albums - try the search box, also in right margin.
DeleteInteresting to find this my dad is Richard Paul Earnheart son of Baxter Clark Earnheart from Kansas. I am Pauletta Lori Earnheart Morris now~ wonder if we are related to Hattie or not?
