Graduation photograph of a young man identified on the reverse as Herbert O. Farrington of Portland, Maine, who graduated with the Class of 1902 at the University of Maine at Orono, Maine, with a degree in electrical engineering. The photograph was taken at the Heath studio of Bangor, Maine.
From brief online research, hopefully correct: [corrections and additions requested]
Herbert Oscar Farrington was born March 14, 1880 at Portland, Maine, the son of Zenas Rogers Farrington and Ella Frances (Rowe) Farrington. Both of Herbert's parents had died by the time this photograph was taken.
Before receiving his degree, Herbert married Mary Edith Hutchins on January 2, 1901 at Portland, Maine. Mary Edith, who was born June 6, 1883 at Canton, Maine, was the daughter of Charles Ilsley Goodwin Hutchins and Lizzie Plummer (Swett) Hutchins.
Herbert and Mary Edith moved to Kittery, Maine, where Herbert worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. They had, I believe, seven children. Herbert died in 1956 and Mary Edith in 1979. Herbert is buried at the Orchard Grove Cemetery at Kittery, Maine.
