9 tintypes of men, likely Bangor, Maine area

Nine tintypes in a collection of about 50 tintypes purchased at a Bangor, Maine show in 1990. I was told the people shown on the tintypes were from the Bangor area, though I obviously can't confirm that.

To see more of the tintypes in this collection, use the search box at right and enter Bangor tintypes.

The tintypes shown in this post do not have backings, but I've included scans of the backs of two that do, to show the Bangor, Maine connection, of those two at least.

Scans of the only two tintypes in the collection that had a backing showing the photographer; neither of them is on the back of the tintypes in this post. The studios were both located in Bangor, Maine. One is J. P. Merrill; the other is A. B. Farrar.

If you recognize any of these men from your family albums, please leave a comment or contact me directly.

Tintypes of 5 Older Men, likely Bangor, Maine area

Five more tintypes in the collection purchased at a Bangor, Maine show in 1990.   There are about fifty tintypes in all, many showing a family resemblance, many of women, many of men, some of couples, some of children, some of what appear to be family groups and a few showing two or more men.  The tintypes shown in this post do not have backings, but I've included scans of two that do, to show the Bangor, Maine connection.

Check this blog's archives for November 2010 for more tintypes from this collection.  Search for titles with the wording "likely Bangor Maine area" included.

The group in this particular post consists of the five older gentlemen in the collection.  Notice that one of them was probably a couples or group photo cut vertically so that only the man at the right edge is left.

Here are the only two backings in the entire collection, each showing a different Bangor, Maine studio.  They were on the backs of two tintypes of women shown in an earlier post.  One is J. P. Merrill; the other A. B. Farrar.

If you recognize any of the men pictured above from your family albums, please leave a comment in the comments box or contact me directly.

4 Tintypes of Standing Ladies, likely from the Bangor, Maine area

Four more tintypes in the collection purchased at a Bangor, Maine show in 1990.

Check the archives of November of 2010 for posts with "Bangor, Maine area" in the title to see more of these tintypes.   I'm working my way through the tintypes of women first.

Shown above and below are four well-dressed ladies photographed while standing.

Here are scans of two tintypes (not the ones discussed above) with a backing that identifies a Bangor, Maine studio.

4 Tintypes of 2 Women, likely from the Bangor, Maine area

Four tintypes in a collection of about fifty purchased at a Bangor, Maine show in 1990. I was told the folks in the tintypes were from the Bangor area, though I obviously can't confirm that.

To see more of the tintypes in this collection, use the search box at right and enter Bangor tintypes.

This post concerns four tintypes of two different women, taken on the same day, I believe.

Below are two views of the other woman. Click on an image to enlarge it.

Two tintypes in the collection, not those above, have a backing that
identifies the studio that produced the tintype, both of them in Bangor, Maine. One is the studio of J. P. Merrill; the other is the studio of A. B. Farrar.

If you recognize either of these women from family albums, please leave a comment in the comments box or contact me directly.

3 tintypes of women, likely from Bangor, Maine area

Three tintypes of unidentified women purchased at a Bangor, Maine show in 1990, part of a grouping of about fifty tintypes where many of the people bear a family resemblance.   I'll be posting images of more of the tintypes over the next few weeks.

Included in the group are two with a backing that indicates they were taken by a Bangor, Maine studio.
