1881-1897 Autograph Album that Presumably Belonged to Rosella Clough (Leighton) Conant (1828-1907) of Wayne, Maine

1881-1897 autograph album that presumably belonged to Rosella Clough (Leighton) Conant (1828-1907) of Wayne, Maine.  The album features inscriptions from many of Rosella's relatives.

It was found with an autograph album that belonged to her son William Henry Conant (1855-1935), which was featured in another post.  Many people inscribed pages in both albums.

Mary E. Jennings, who inscribed a page at North Wayne, Maine, on March 30, 1883, directed her sentiment to "Mrs. Conant".

The album measures approximately 7-3/4" by 5" and contains the sentiments of 33 of Rosella's relatives and friends.  An alphabetical list of the inscribers appears at the end of this post.

Rosella was born 30 December 1828 at Parkman, Maine, the daughter of Ephraim Leighton (1800-1876) and Hannah (Brainerd) Leighton (1793-1870).  The Brainerd inscribers in the album used the spelling Brainerd, although other records show the name as Brainard.

W. C. Brainerd of Providence, Rhode Island; inscribed on June 29, 1884.  Lizzie Brainerd inscribed the right facing page.  Presumably jeweler William Church Brainerd (1837-1918), husband of Elizabeth (Crossley) Brainerd (1839-1922). 

On 26 October 1851 at Augusta, Maine, Rosella married Thomas Conant (1809-1894), son of son of Joseph Conant (1767-1833) and Lucinda (Tufts) Conant (1762-1857), "Lucy".   The couple had at least one child, the above mentioned William Henry Conant (1855-1935).
