1879-1882 Autograph Album of Katie A. Zimmerman of the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Area

1879-1882 autograph album of Katie A. Zimmerman of the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, area.    In addition to Harrisburg, inscriptions came from the Pennsylvania towns of Chambersburg, Churchville, Goldsboro, Highspire, Lebanon, Shippensburg and Steelton.

One person mentioned B.E.C., which might have been a college in the Harrisburg, area.  Hopefully a reader will share an insight.  If a college, some of the farther flung inscribers might have been students there.

Katie wrote her name on two pages.

The album was given to Katie by Maggie on December 25, 1879, as noted in handwriting at the top of the title page.

The album measures approximately 7" by 4-1/4" and contains the sentiments of over 30 of Katie's relatives and friends.  An alphabetical list of the inscribers, together with any personal information they offered, appears at the end of this post.

Two people mentioned a cousin relationship with Katie.  They were:
  • Clara C. Hanshue, who inscribed her page at Steelton, Pennsylvania, on May 13, 1880
  • Josephine B. Stofer, who inscribed her page at Middletown, Pennsylvania, on April 24, 1883.

I believe Clara and Josephine were related to Katie through her Zimmerman line, as Clara's grandmother was a Zimmerman, and Josephine's mother was a Zimmerman.

There were several cases of a Katie Zimmerman who fit the profile of our Katie.  Hopefully a reader will be able to connect her to Clara and Josephine and provide the names of her parents and spouse, if any.

One interesting page was inscribed at "Brookside" on September 10, 1882 by several people from Harrisburg, Highspire and Churchville.  They were D. H. Lehman, S. C. Lehman, John Martin, Charles Palmer and W. H. Siders.

If you can identify Katie A. Zimmerman or have information on any of the inscribers listed below, please leave a comment or contact me directly.
