c1910 Photograph Album, Presumably Owned by the Family of Frank Lawrence Sinnott and Cora Adella (Perry) Sinnott of Marshfield, Massachusetts

c1910 photograph album that belonged, presumably, to the family of Frank Lawrence Sinnott and Cora Adella (Perry) Sinnott of Marshfield, Massachusetts.    Frank was a native of Duxbury, Massachusetts; Cora, of Shelburne, Nova Scotia.

The album measures approximately 5-1/2" by 4-1/2" and contains 43 photographs and evidence of several others that are now missing.  Most of the photographs are not identified as to people or places.  Places mentioned:
  • The Lock, Deerfield, New Hampshire
  • Beaver Lake, New Hampshire, July 4, 1912
  • North East Harbor, Nova Scotia, 1909: four women
  • North East Harbor, Nova Scotia, a large house
  • Nortonville
Only one person in the album is definitively identified: Elsie Perry Sinnott age age 1 year and 5 months, dated August 10, 1913.  She was Frank and Cora's daughter.  Elsie would marry Albert Raymond Schofield.

Another photograph, shown on the page below at bottom and dated May 30, 1914, identifies three figures as Tyler, Marrinam and Curran.

From brief online research, hopefully correct:  [corrections and additions requested]

Frank Lawrence Sinnott was born June 4, 1878 at Duxbury, Massachusetts, the son of Frank Melville Sinnott and Rebecca (Chandler) Sinnott.  On December 19, 1897 at Marshfield, Massachusetts, Frank married Cora Adella Perry, daughter of William Henry Pitman Perry and Joanna H. (Perry) Perry.  Cora was born at Shelburne, Nova Scotia, on May 14, 1877.

In addition to Elsie Perry Sinnott, born in 1912, Frank and Cora had five other children, three sons and two daughters, who may be depicted in the album.

1881-1890 Autograph Album of Blanche B. Whittemore of Salisbury, New Hampshire; Student at Proctor Academy at Andover, New Hampshire

Autograph album that was presented to Blanche B. Whittemore of Salisbury, New Hampshire, by her teacher, May A. Stevens of Salisbury Center, New Hampshire, on August 4, 1881.

Blanche wrote her name on the inside cover and on the first end paper.

The album measures approximately 5-1/4" by 3-1/4" and contains the sentiments of 65 of Blanche's relatives, friends, schoolmates and teachers, including those at Proctor Academy at Andover, New Hampshire, still in operation today.

From brief online research, hopefully correct:  [corrections and additions requested]

Blanche B. Whittemore was born about April 1871 at Salisbury, New Hampshire, or Wilmot, New Hampshire, the daughter of Frank and Almeda C. (Purington) Whittemore.  Almeda inscribed a page in the album:

Blanche had a brother, Charles E. Whittemore, who inscribed facing pages in the album, one at West Salisbury, New Hampshire, in 1881, and the other in Salisbury,  New Hampshire, in 1887.

On October 16, 1895 at Manchester, New Hampshire, Blanche married blacksmith Sherman Pliny Fellows, son of Pliny A. Fellows and Mary A. (Stevens) Fellows.  At the time Blanche was teaching school.  Blanche and Sherman had at least one child, a daughter Hazel Gertrude Fellows, who died in infancy.

If you have corrections and/or additions to the information above, or information on any of the inscribers listed below, please leave a comment or contact me directly.

Early 1900s Photo Album of Hervey Daniel Foss and Mary Sutherland (Hinkley) Foss of Melrose, Massachusetts and Maine

Early 1900s photograph album that belonged to the family of Hervey Daniel Foss and Mary Sutherland (Hinkley) Foss, Maine natives who lived in Melrose, Massachusetts.  Hervey was born at Hancock, Maine; and Mary, at Alton, Maine.

The album measures approximately 10" by 7" and contains 229 photographs of people and scenery in Massachusetts, Maine, and New Hampshire, where the family had a camp.   Sadly, most photographs are not identified.  See a list farther below of identified people.

See an earlier post that features the photograph album of their daughter Eleanor Frances Foss, which contains 168 photographs.

Mary Sutherland (Hinkley) Foss was born at Alton, Maine, on February 10, 1883, the daughter of Horace Leslie Hinkley and Alice Electa (Sutherland) Hinkley.   Horace had died in 1896 but Alice appears in at least two photographs, including this one with her daughter Blanche Mildred (Hinkley) Perry and Blanche's daughters Helen and Velma, as well as dog "Grubby":

"The Old Homestead" at Alton, Maine, presumably where Mary Sutherland (Hinkley) Foss grew up:

On September 12, 1911, at Bangor, Maine, Mary married Hervey Daniel Foss, son of Augustus B. Foss and Angie Nettie (Springer) Foss.

Below are, top to bottom, photographs of Augustus B. Foss, identified as Dad - Mary's own father had died by then; Angie Nettie (Springer) Foss, with her son Archie Lindsay Foss; and the Foss home at Hancock, Maine:

Hervey and Mary moved to Melrose, Massachusetts, and had two children, Eleanor Frances Foss and Sheldon H. Foss.

Hervey Daniel Foss and Mary Sutherland (Hinkley) Foss died in the 1970s, are buried at Riverside Cemetery at Hancock, Maine.

1929-1930s Photograph Album of Eleanor Frances Foss of Melrose, Massachusetts; Later Eleanor Frances (Foss) Ritchie Plummer of Massachusetts and Maine

1929-1930s photograph album that belonged to Eleanor Frances Foss of Melrose, Massachusetts.  Many photographs show Maine scenes and people, reflecting the fact that Eleanor's parents were Maine natives.

The album was found with an older one apparently kept by Eleanor's mother Mary Sutherland (Hinkley) Foss, a native of Alton, Maine.

The album measures 10" by 6-1/2" and contains 168 photographs.  Many of the people and scenes in the album are identified.

From brief online research, hopefully correct:  [corrections and additions requested]

Eleanor Frances Foss was born July 16, 1915 at Melrose, Massachusetts, the daughter of Hervey Daniel Foss and Mary Sutherland [or Southerland] (Hinkley) Foss, who were born at Hancock, Maine, and Alton, Maine, respectively.  Eleanor had a younger brother Sheldon H. Foss.  Many of the photographs depict her immediate family, as well as other family members, friends, and Paul Osman Ritchie, "Dud", who would become her husband.

Eleanor and Dud were teachers.  I found faculty photographs of them in the 1959 yearbook of Weymouth High School, Weymouth, Massachusetts.  Dud died in 1966.  Eleanor later married Henry Almon Plummer of Maine.  She died at Bangor, Maine, in 2004.  Her obituary details her full life of teaching, child rearing and volunteerism.
Below, a photograph that shows Eleanor's father's humorous side.

Eleanor's mother, Mary Sutherland (Hinkley) Foss appears in several photographs, but in a group or from a distance, such as in a group photo at her brother William H. Hinkley's farm, shown below.  William's wife and children were Amy Alice (Malbon) Hinkley and Bernice, Raymond and Wallace.

Eleanor's brother, Sheldon H. Foss:

Two photographs of the farm of Eleanor's paternal grandmother, Angie N. (Springer) Foss of Hancock, Maine, widow of Augustus B. Foss.  I understand the farm is still in the Foss family.  Perhaps it was here that Eleanor's father, Hervey Daniel Foss, grew up.

Below, two of the many photographs of Paul Osman Ritchie, "Dud", of Melrose, Massachusetts, who would become Eleanor's first husband: Dud alone and with Eleanor Frances Foss at Eleanor's family's camp in August 1930.
