c1883 Cabinet Photograph of Amy White Leavitt, Young Girl of Eastport, Maine

Cabinet photograph of Amy White Leavitt, daughter of Samuel Dean Leavitt and Emily C. (White) Leavitt of Eastport, Maine.  The photograph was taken by the Loring Studio of Eastport.

Amy's photograph was found with two other Leavitt family mementos:
  1. Cabinet photograph of Amy's mother, Emily C. (White) Leavitt
  2. Likeness or photograph of Amy's paternal grandfather Benjamin Brackett Leavitt
From brief online research, hopefully correct:  [corrections and additions welcome!]

Amy White Leavitt was born September 15, 1879 at Eastport, Maine, the daughter of Samuel Dean Leavitt and Emily C. (White) Leavitt, noted residents of that city.  Amy attended Vassar College in the early 1890s; a catalog from Vassar helpfully provided her middle name.  On January 18, 1901 at Eastport, Maine, Amy White Leavitt married Henry Chapman Waters, son of William and Emma M. (Wilson) Waters.

Presumably she was the Amy Leavitt Waters of Boston, Massachusetts, who left a testimonial in a 1914 Christian Science publication.  And she may have been the Amy Leavitt Waters whose diary of 1907-1910 is held at the New York Public Library.

  1. Can you tell me how you found the reference to Amy Leavitt Waters' diary of 1907-1910 is held at the New York Public Library?

  2. Seaching online - but the diarist Amy may or may not be the Amy in the photograph. If you can confirm they are one and the same, please let me know.
